We launched Waxhead Sun Defense in 2015 with the idea that what we eat could improve the way our skin reacts in sunshine. A great deal of medical research showed that with significant levels of antioxidants and vitamins, your body could work continually to remove free radicals produced from sun exposure, to reduce skin inflammation, and to protect cell membranes that prevent DNA damage.
In short, nutrients could boost your skin’s formidable natural sun defenses against short term sunburn and long term harm. You see, UV rays from the sun create free radicals that damage skin tissues. And in multiple clinical studies, antioxidant vitamins C and E were shown to reduce this oxidative stress.
But we wanted to know if the theories worked in the real world. So to test the efficacy of our products, we conducted our own field test trials in actual use conditions with the help of surfers, anglers and outdoorsmen/women from Florida and California. Our process and results are outlined below.

We set out to design a healthy snack based on the science of providing our skin with the right tools to defend itself in the sun. We examined and tasted many all-natural ingredients to include in our nutrient bars. Including the right amount of antioxidants was vital, and so was safety, taste, and protein levels.
We developed four varieties of nutrient bars. Each includes organic ingredients like nuts, fruits, oats and around 10g of protein. Every Waxhead Bar is completely safe for kids and adults.
Field Test Process
We decided to field test our bars with people who spend lots of time on the water and in the sun. And so we reached out to experienced surfers and anglers throughout Florida and California. Each participant was sent 12 Waxhead bars and instructions on how to perform the test.
Before eating Waxhead Bars
Spend 5-8 hours in direct sunlight, preferably in full sun or with minimal to moderate cloud cover. If possible, do NOT wear sunscreen. Wear clothing that exposes significant parts of your body to the sun.
After eating Waxhead Bars
After completing Baseline Test, consume 1 or 2 Waxhead nutrient bars per day over 7-14 days, until all bars have been consumed. After completing above step, spend the same amount of time in the sun and under similar conditions (as in the baseline test).

Waxhead Bars are Effective
In 100% of trials, users experienced significant improvement in post-exposure sunburn severity and skin comfort. By consuming Waxhead Nutrient Bars, testers’ post-exposure skin conditions improved by 48%.
Note: We conducted our tests on over 20 subjects, each active in the sunshine on a regular basis, via outdoor sports like surfing, fishing, golfing and tennis. From an empirical/scientific stand point, these results are biased. In other words, both the test managers (Waxhead) and test subjects were fully aware of what was being tested, and there was no randomly selected control group that received placebos. Furthermore, our findings are based on individual subjects’ own possibly imperfect estimates of their respective before & after results. Nevertheless, the 100% rate of significant heuristically gauged improvement is substantial evidence of true real-world efficacy, that in fact backs up the related controlled test findings from the professional scientific research community.
